Steeped in the traditions of a Benedictine education,
St. Benedict's Preparatory School is a community of 540 young men and 53 faculty members. Members meet each morning at 8:00 for song, readings and prayer, for announcements and attendance reports, and to discuss common problems and opportunities. This Convocation is a daily reminder of the conviction that the happiness and success of each member is the responsibility of all. The writing, in fact, is on the walls of St. Benedict's buildings:
Whatever hurts my brother, hurts me.
This school motto is an integral part of the education offered 11 months of the year to young men in grades 7 through 12 - an education of the mind, spirit, and heart. From the classroom to the athletic field to the site of their latest community-service project, students of our more than 130-year-old institution prepare not just for college, but also for undertaking responsibilities of their own families, faith communities, and leadership roles in a variety of professions and in the communities beyond our Newark, NJ school.
